HDD's for the relocation of pipelines

Belgium

In preparation of the future modification to the bridges across the Albertkanaal, a channel which runs through Belgium between Luik and Antwerp, Visser & Smit Hanab was commissioned by Petrochemical Pipeline Services for the relocation of the existing pipelines, which included the execution of two Horizontal Directional Drillings (HDD’s).

The HDD’s are executed in Zolder (near Genk) and in Schoten (north-east of Antwerp). The length of the HDD’s were respectively 795 meters and 575 meters long.

In Zolder a steel casing (6”) for a communication cable and three steel product pipelines (4”, 10” and 18”) were pulled in as a bundle. The HDD in Zolder was executed with a combined radius which means it was executed with a vertical and horizontal bend.

In Schoten a 160mm PE casing for a communication cable and a 18” steel product pipeline were pulled in.
